Using the Library
Who can get a library card?
Residents of the Village of Millstadt are paying a special tax that supports the Millstadt Library therefore there is no further charge for a library card. A child must be at least 5 years of age and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to apply for a card. While the child is still in grade school a parent or guardian must be with them to sign up for a card or renew the card. Adult and youth cards are good for three (3) years.
Those living outside the Millstadt Village limits, Non-Residents, do not pay a tax to support the Library. Therefore they must pay a fee, determined by the State of Illinois, to join the Library. As of this date, January 2012, the fee is $80.00 for the household. The card is good for one (1) year from date of purchase.
A $1.00 fee is charged for the replacement of a valid Millstadt Library Card.
All Millstadt Library material is checked out for a period of two (2) weeks. Unless the item has a "hold" (a request by another patron ) on it it can be renewed one time for another two (2) week period. Books can be renewed in person at the Library, over the phone or online. If you call the Library be sure to have your library card with you because the barcode number on the back is needed to access your account.
Materials brought into the Library from other members of the Illinois Heartland Library System are usually checked out for a two (2) week period. In most cases they can also be renewed for another two (2) weeks. If there is a "hold" on the item it can not be renewed.
$.05 per day per item is charged for overdue items from the Millstadt Library. Items brought in through the Intelibrary Illinois Heartland Library System are subject to the fee structure of the owning library. The overdue fee follows the item.
